Students from seven area high schools will square off this month in the Minds Inspired Robotics FIRST Tech Challenge interschool tournament, at the Arts & Recreation Centre.
Some of Cayman's best and brightest high school students will take to the Arts & Recreation Centre this month with a chance to put themselves in a position to earn a spot on the national robotics team.
High school students from seven high schools will square off on Saturday, 24 Feb. in the Minds Inspired Robotics FIRST Tech Challenge interschool tournament.
"Participation in the FIRST Tech Challenge creates the opportunity for students to showcase their work and be nominated for the 2024 National Robotics Team that will represent the Cayman Islands at the international event in October," said Dart Senior Manager of Education Programmes Glenda McTaggart.
The global challenge was held in Singapore last year. The location for the 2024 global challenge will be announced in March.
FIRST Global brings together youth from diverse backgrounds, cultures and experiences and inspires them to become the leaders and innovators of the future to tackle the world's most pressing challenges.
The challenge encourages students to think like engineers as teams design, build and code robots to perform tasks as they compete in an alliance format against other teams. Every year there is a new game and challenge students must plan for. This season, the competition shines a spotlight on the role STEM plays in the arts and empowering young people to design and build a world of endless possibilities.
